OVSAA Cross Country Championships
Oct 22 or 23, 2024
RACE TIMES: Junior 11:30 / Senior 12:10
Location: Mission Sportsfields, 4105 Gordon Dr (access off Lexington Dr)
The junior course is 4 km. Senior course is 5 km.
This course is run predominantly on the turf fields. Very spike friendly, flat and fast!
Who: This race is open to any and all registered O.V.S.A.A. athletes in grades 8-12, though grade 8 athletes should NOT be entered unless they can legitimately compete at this higher level, as they will be competing as Juniors. Junior athletes MUST declare themselves as EITHER Junior or Senior (Junior athletes may run up as Seniors, but will only be scored as Seniors and cannot move back down to the Junior category for Provincials.)
Registration: will be completed via MileSplit. Coaches can register here https://bc.milesplit.com/meets/578805/registration
On Arrival: Coaches - race packages will be available on site at the race office window next to the basement door of the chalet. Race packages will be released upon receipt of payment ($12 per athlete, cash or cheque made out to OCSAA).
Race packages will contain small bib numbers and safety pins, and a list of athletes with corresponding bib numbers. They will NOT contain chips – bib numbers to be pinned to FRONT of singlet in a very visible manner.
Timing chips: athletes will go to bib collection tent to claim their timing chips, presenting their bib number for matching chip – these are Velcro ankle bracelets, and will be returned at the finish area when the racer crosses the finish line – once the racers have their chips, they need to stay well clear of the finish line so as not to confuse the timing equipment
Amenities:
There are no indoor facilities, so I encourage teams to bring tents. Washrooms are available on site.
Tents: team tents can be set up in the stadium area between the start line and finish line, or around the back and side of the chalet – should be lots of room
Food: there will be hot chocolate available beginning after the conclusion of the junior race, and a small selection of food (muffins, bagels, cookies, bananas) – NOT enough to constitute lunch for hungry athletes though, just a post-race snack
Awards: awards will be on site after the race, presented by the finish area.
Provincials Registration: Athletes who qualify for Provincials will automatically be entered to compete. Please let Chantelle Manzuik know if you do NOT intend to compete. Individual schools will be invoiced directly for the athlete registration fees.
Time:
The Junior race will start at 11:30 and the Seniors at 12:10.
Awards on site at 1:15pm (approximately).
Team Guidelines:
Teams in each category are made up of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 7 athletes. The top 4 athletes in each school score points for their team. The exception to this is A schools in the Sr category, which only require and score 3 runners.
Qualification:
Berthing has been released by BC School Sports (see file below). These are the spots available for qualification for Provincials in each category. Note that an athlete does not count as both a team member and an individual. For example, if the 3, 5 and 7th place finishers in Junior Girls also qualified as team members, those positions roll down so that the 11th, 12th and 13th Junior Girls would qualify.
